From hide to finished piece

Every wallet and bag at 3C Tăng Bạt Hổ passes through a craftsperson's hands, from the raw hide to the finished piece. No rush, no mass production.

  1. Plastic pattern laid on moss-green leather, ready to cut

    1. Cutting the pattern

The pattern is laid on the hide, traced and cut. Every piece is cut by hand, following the grain of the leather.

  2. Mallet striking a punch on a leather strip

    2. Punching

Evenly spaced holes are punched along the seam line. Whether the stitching runs straight is decided at this step.

  3. Two needles hand-stitching waxed thread along a leather strap

    3. Hand-stitching with waxed thread

Each stitch is sewn with waxed thread, two needles crossing in opposite directions, so even if one stitch breaks the seam will not come undone.

  4. Burnishing the edge of a leather strap with a hand tool

    4. Finishing the edges

Edges are sanded, dyed and burnished until smooth, with no fraying.

Choosing the leather

Shelf of rolled cowhide in many colours in the workshop

Genuine cowhide, each hide suited to a certain kind of piece: pebbled leather for wallets that resist scratches, waxed leather for bags and backpacks that deepen in colour with use. Made-to-order customers can pick their leather colour right at the shelf.
